Halite, commonly known as rock salt, commonly found and well known mineral, the mineral form of sodium chloride.  Halite forms isometric crystals. The mineral is typically colorless or white, but may also be light blue, dark blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow or gray depending on the amount and type of impurities.  It can be found in salt lakes and oceans in a dissolved solution or as a solid mass in various locations formed via various processes.  It commonly occurs with other evaporite deposit minerals such as several of the sulfates, halides, and borates.  Pink halite is regarded as a crystal of personal power and healing.

Obsidian is a type of naturally-occurring glass formed as an extrusive igneous rock. It is produced when felsic lava erupted from a volcano, cools rapidly through the glass transition temperature and freezes without sufficient time for Crystal growth. Because of the lack of Crystal structure, Obsidian blade edges can reach almost molecular thinness, leading to its ancient use of projectile points (arrow heads), and its modern use as surgical scalpel blades.

Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine intergrowths of the minerals quartz and moganite. Chalcedony has a waxy luster, and may be semitransparent or translucent. It can assume a wide range of colors, but those most commonly seen are white to gray, grayish-blue or a shade of brown ranging from pale to nearly black.

Pyrite, or Iron Pyrite, is an Iron sulfide with isometric Crystals that usually appear as cubes.  It is brittle and can break or powder easily.  Its metallic luster and brass yellow hue have earned it the nickname of "fool's gold" due to many miners mistaken it for the real thing.  Ironically, small quantities of actual gold are sometimes found in Pyrite.  It is the most common of the sulfide minerals and is usually found with other sulfides or oxides in Quartz veins, sedimentary or metamorphic rocks.

Quartz is the second most common mineral in the Earth's continental crust.  It is mainly composed of Silica or Silica based minerals.  Although Quartz is known by a variety of names, the most important distinction between types of Quartz is that of macro-crystalline, individual crystals visible to the unaided eye, and micro-crystalline, where aggregates of crystals are only visible under high magnification.  There are many forms of Quartz including Chalcedony, Amethyst, Citrine, and Carnelian which are results of mineral impurities or heat treatments.

The mineral marcasite, sometimes called “white iron pyrite”, is iron sulfide with orthorhombic crystal structure. It is physically and crystallographically distinct from pyrite, which is iron sulfide with cubic crystal structure. Both structures do have in common that they contain the disulfide having a short bonding distance between the sulfur atoms. Marcasite is lighter and more brittle than pyrite. Specimens of marcasite often crumble and break up due to the unstable crystal structure.

Tourmaline is one of the most chemically complicated of all Silicate minerals. It is a complex Silicate of Aluminum and Boron and the composition varies widely with Sodium, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Lithium and many other elements that enter into it's structure. It can occur in a long, slender needle-like crystal to a thick prismatic and columnar crystal to a radial like daisy formation. It comes in many colors usually black and brown (iron rich); brown and yellow (magnesium rich); and blue, red, green, yellow, and pink (lithium rich). This mineral is found in igneous rocks, like Granite Pegmatite, and metamorphic rocks such as Schist and Marble.

Albite is a common feldspar mineral and a sodium aluminosilicate that occurs most widely in pegmatites and felsic igneous rock such as granite. It also may be found in low-grade metamorphic rocks. Albite usually forms brittle, glassy crystals that may be colorless, white, yellow, green pink or black.
