Jasper, or spotted stone, is an opaque, impure variety of Quartz that
is usually red, yellow or brown in color. Some Jaspers simultaneously
exhibit several variants such as banding, flow patterns, dendrites or
color variations. This results in what appears to be scenes or images in
a cut section of the Jasper.

PR1001b Here is a unique
treasure! This is a beautiful single Rutilated Quartz crystal with very
nice clarity, some subtle "rainbow" reflections, loaded with
gold colored Rutiles and sparkly inclusions. It

Quartz is the second most common mineral in the Earth's
continental crust. It is mainly composed of Silica or Silica based minerals.
Although Quartz is known by a variety of names, the most important distinction
between types of Quartz is that of macro-crystalline, individual crystals
visible to the unaided eye, and micro-crystalline, where aggregates of crystals
are only visible under high magnification. There are many forms of Quartz
including Chalcedony, Amethyst, Citrine, and Carnelian which are results of
mineral impurities or heat treatments.
Rutile is a mineral composed primarily of Titanium Dioxide. Rutile
has among the highest refractive indices of any known mineral and also
exhibits high dispersion. Rutile is known to contain up to 10% Iron as
well as significant amounts of Niobium and Tantalum. Rutile creates small
needles within crystals that can be seen when held up to light.

Geodes are geological rock formations which occur in sedimentary and
certain volcanic rocks. They are essentially rock cavities or vugs with
internal Crystal formations or concentric banding. The exterior is generally
Limestone while the interior contains Quartz Crystals and/or Chalcedony deposits.
If the Geode is completely filled with Crystal, being solid all the way through,
it is then called a nodule.

Amethyst is a purple variety of Quartz often used as an ornament.
It occurs in color from a light, slightly pinkish violet to a deep grape
purple.
Upon exposure to heat, Amethyst generally becomes yellow, which some refer
to as Citrine or "burnt" Amethyst. It is widely distributed
as a mineral, but fine, clear specimens that are suitable for cutting as ornamental
stones.

Calcite is a Carbonate mineral that is most widely distributed on
the Earth's surface. It is a common constituent of sedimentary rocks with
Limestone in particular. A Calcite formation can take on many different
shapes and sizes which is dependent on the location, ground water
occurrence and temperature. Calcite is usually white or colorless but can
be gray, red, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown or black. The deeper the
color is usually indicative of the definitive impurities from the earth or
water.

One of the favorites of the Rock Shed returns!!! Here is a larger,
very good
quality Selenite Massage Wand. It measures approximately 6" long x
7/8" in diameter and has been hand
polished. Each end has a rounded smooth finish to prevent cuts or scrapes.
The larger size is easier to handle with either hand and works well with different
hand sizes. Item will be similar to item in photo.
Selenite, also known as Satin Spar, Desert Rose and Gypsum Flower, are
the four Crystalline varieties of Gypsum. It is a very soft material
composed of Calcium Sulfate. Selenite is often transparent and colorless.
If color is present it is often due to impurities or presence of other minerals.

Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing
Silica in solution which is possibly derived from the decomposition of Silicates
in the lava. The Siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting
in the banded or striped formation. It is very unlikely that you would
ever find an exact duplicate of any type of Agate, Brazilian or other.

PR1007b This is a great

Moonstone is a typical Potassium Aluminum Silicate with several
commonalities with the Feldspar family. It's name is derived from the
visual effect or sheen that is caused by light reflecting internally and
externally from the layer inclusions of different Feldspars. Moonstone is
closely related to Sunstone, Labradorite and Sodalite.

Obsidian is a type of naturally-occurring glass formed as an extrusive
igneous rock. It is produced when felsic lava erupted from a volcano,
cools rapidly through the glass transition temperature and freezes without
sufficient time for Crystal growth. Because of the lack of Crystal structure,
Obsidian blade edges can reach almost molecular thinness, leading to its ancient
use of projectile points (arrow heads) and its modern use as surgical scalpel
blades.

Petrified Wood is a type of a fossil as it consists of fossil wood where
all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals while retaining
the original structure of the wood. These minerals are most often Silicates
such as Quartz. Other minerals, Manganese, Iron and Copper, in the water
or mud during the petrification process give Petrified Wood a variety of color
ranges: black - Carbon; green/blue - Copper; red/brown/yellow - Iron.
Petrified Wood can preserve the original structure of the wood in all its
detail all the way down to the microscopic level. Structures such as
tree rings and the various tissues are often observed features. Although
Petrified Wood can be found worldwide, it is rather rare in larger quantities
and at times can be difficult to obtain by the average collector.
